The intro is below and the full newsletter can be downloaded here.

I would like to extend a very special welcome back to all students, staff and parents to our school. I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer and is looking forward to starting a new school year. We anticipate that this will be an exciting year for our students with many fantastic educational opportunities for them to experience.

Our teaching staff has been very busy this summer. Some have participated in staff development workshops which enabled them to further their expertise in various curriculum areas and refine their classroom management skills. Others have spent valuable time previewing instructional materials for use in our educational programs. All have been in to prepare their rooms and to create inviting learning environments for your children. It has been a productive summer for our professional staff.

Our custodial staff has been working very hard to ensure that your children will start school in a building which is clean, attractive and conducive for learning. They have also spent a great deal of time attending to the many tasks necessary for a smoother start to the school year.

We have a few new staff members to start the year off. Mrs. Carr will be teaching Kindergarten and Academic Support for the full year while Mrs. Krisfalusy is off on her maternity leave. Mrs. Carr comes to us from William Penn Elementary after spending the past year as their Instructional Support Teacher. Ms. Baldwin will be in for Mrs. Orner-Galentine as our Reading Specialist for the first four weeks of school. Ms. Osman will be teaching fourth grade this year.

I am excited to be working with such a talented and dedicated staff in a school where parents are supportive of our efforts. We take seriously our responsibility to nourish, protect and develop children to their fullest potential and thank you for your trust in us!

Have a great year!

Sincerely,
Fred T. Pearson
Principal

Can you believe that the school year is half way over? The children have recently celebrated the 100th Day of School with many fun activities, crafts, and lessons. Through your efforts, you have sent our children on field trips (if they haven’t gone yet, rest assured we’re just heading into field trip season as spring arrives), brought in special presentations and assemblies, and provided them with books to read. You have given them time with their friends at Halloween and Holiday parties, Sing-A-Long, Bingo, and Movie nights. Youhave shown them the importance of working for the good of your community.

Your volunteer hours have provided your children with a priceless gift: the gift of knowing that they are the most important people in our lives. We are very lucky to have so many helpful and charitable people at Washington. Since the PTO is a volunteer organization, its success depends on a high level of participation from parents like you. Involvement is one way to further your commitment to your children's education, not to mention a good way to get to know new people. And we thank you for all of your help so far this year!

Our PTO meetings are held monthly, alternating mornings and evenings to accommodate you. PTO meetings are where parents can learn about what is happening in the school and around the district. We welcome your questions, comments, and feedback at these meetings. The schedule of meetings can be found on the PTO website. We still have a few meetings left, we hope to see you there, and if you can’t make it, please feel free to send an email or note with any questions or concerns you’d like to have addressed.

Denise and Katrina

Co-Presidents
